    This is actually false! It is not the sound barrier, but just condensation due to near transonic high air expansion (=low temperature)... BYE DAR

    when you break the sound barrier rapid condensation occurs as your mach number is equal to 1 (relative air speed w.r.t jet = speed of sound for that pressure and density). The relative flow changes from incompressible to compressible, and the transonic high air expansion occurs (as you mentioned) - which occurs when you break the sound barrier.
